Yapahuwa
Yapahuwa served as the site of a dynasty for just ten years in the late 13th century. The royal palace was built on a rocky mountain about 90 meters high. Though the palace is now in ruins, its granite steps, adorned with intricate decorations, are a must-see. Built by King Buvanekabahu I in 1273, Yapahuwa’s highlight is its ornamental stairway, featuring a unique design and exquisite stone carvings.
